Morenista deputy Nayeli Salvatori announced the cancellation of her social media program and her temporary withdrawal from the platforms after sparking controversy for criticizing elderly people and making ironic comments about their smell.
Through a post on her Instagram stories, the local legislator from Puebla lamented that it is no longer possible to converse freely without the risk of being taken out of context, while announcing the end of "Descasadas".
"What happened in recent days made us understand something very painful: today, many times it is no longer possible to have a conversation freely, with humor or honesty without running the risk of it being taken out of context, distorted, or used to hurt. That is why, with much sadness, but also with much affection, we want to tell you that this project comes to an end", the statement reads.
She also thanked her followers who listened to the almost 40 episodes of the program, which she claimed aimed to be "a safe space for women to talk."
Subsequently, she informed that she had decided to temporarily step away from social media to reflect on what happened over the weekend.
"I trust that this time will help me return with more clarity and peace", wrote the morenista deputy.
Nayeli Salvatori, known on social media as "Nay", is a content creator with over 458 thousand followers on Instagram and 3.1 million on TikTok; from 2018 to 2021 she was a legislator in the Chamber of Deputies and since 2024 she has served as a local deputy in the Congress of Puebla.
What Did Nay Salvatori Do?
During episode 38 "Jealousy, Toxicity, Cheating, Older or Younger?", the morenista deputy along with her fellow party member Grace Palomares and other guests made ironic comments about the smell of elderly people.
In the conversation, Salvatori laughed at a comment from another participant and remarked amidst laughter: "That old people smell like a trunk".
For her part, Grace Palomares commented: "It's already old people's skin, so soft"; the legislator laughed at Salvatori's comment and added: "It's just that they're already rotting, dude".
After users on social media pointed out the comments, both deputies issued a public apology; the episode is no longer available on their YouTube account.
However, Salvatori continued making light of the controversy with more videos on her social media and phrases that alluded to her comment about the "smell of a trunk".
