CELAYA, Guanajuato.- An intense torrential rain accompanied by wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour caused various damages in the municipality of Celaya, leaving behind severe flooding, power outages, and fallen trees in different parts of the municipality and dozens of damaged vehicles in 18 neighborhoods of the city.

The municipal Civil Protection reported that there were no injuries but work continued early this morning to collect the broken vehicles.

The neighborhoods affected were Zona Centro, Santo Cristo, Villa de los Reyes, El Vergel, Bugambilias, Girasoles, Residencial del Valle, Ciudad Industrial, Barrio de San Miguel, Barrio de Santiaguito, Alameda, Excelaris, Olivos, Santa Rita, Arboledas, Las Flores, Santa María, and Villas de la Esperanza.

The emergency services were on alert due to the storm that hit the city and caused the collapse of a large tree on Manuel Orozco Avenue, right at the height of the commercial area, which completely blocked vehicular traffic and mobilized emergency services.

The accumulation of water reached high levels on the main avenues and boulevards of the city, leaving dozens of damaged vehicles.

To prevent greater risks to motorists, authorities implemented the closure of the Batallas de Celaya roundabout (near Pepsi), redirecting traffic to alternate routes.

The storm also impacted the interior of commercial establishments, such as in the Mega Comercial plaza and the Central Bus Station where water entered the facilities. Additionally, power outages were reported in several neighborhoods and intermittent failures in the traffic light network.

Personnel from Civil Protection and Firefighters were deployed to the affected areas for debris removal, drainage, and traffic assistance, while urging citizens to take precautions and avoid driving through areas with flowing water.
