The president Claudia Sheinbaum reacted this Tuesday to the decision of the Guanajuato government to maintain its public high schools with a militarized model despite the determination of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP).
The administration led by Libia Denise García indicated that this federal order does not affect these schools because it only applies to basic education and private schools.
In response, the Mexican president urged the governor to speak with the head of Public Education, Mario Delgado, about the issue.
Sheinbaum also insisted on distancing the Army and the Navy Secretariat from this educational model, stating that they should not continue to be referred to with terms that reference the Armed Forces.
"It is wrong to continue using militarized schools because it has nothing to do with the Army or the Navy, as was explained here by the Secretary General, that they have nothing to do with it," she added.
Additionally, she urged that the discipline promoted in these schools should not lead to violence following the femicide of the minor Dafne Zapata in Tamaulipas.
"It has to be within a framework where there is no abuse and no violence against children, because we must defend the maximum right of children," she stated.
